Officially, the main tasks of the Allied forces were mountbatten: the troops deployed by the British divisions were Division 5 under Major General Robert C. Mansergh for Ostjava, Division 23 under Major General Douglas Cyril Hawthorn for Westjava and Central Dejava, while Division 26 under Major General H.M Chambers for Sumatra. On August 1, 1945, MacArthur`s authority over Java, Bali, Lombok, Kalimantan and Sulawesi was transferred to Mountbatten. In line with UNMISS`s current mandate and David Shearer`s vision of protecting civilians and achieving lasting peace, the Civil Affairs Division is responsible for three strategic priorities: the Civil Affairs Division regularly works with all levels of government, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, international organizations, faith-based organizations, traditional authorities, women`s groups and youth groups to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of its work. With the help of these partners, Civil Affairs carried out 162 projects across South Sudan in the 2018/19 financial year, involving more than 34,454 stakeholders. Similarly, 129 projects reached 54,042 interest groups in the 2019-2020 fiscal year. The Yalta Conference in February 1945 not only divided Europe into two blocs: The West and the East, but also led to a very fatal decision for the former European colonies.
